11-month-old with Cataract
Mohd Maaz just eleven months old was diagnosed cataract locally. The parents fighting the denial and the negative loop of thoughts, finally decided to consult at a good hospital. On the recommendation of relatives, they came to C L Gupta Eye Institute, Moradabad, India. Maaz belonged to a humble family and his father is only earning person in family. He was diagnosed as bilateral congenital cataract in his both eyes at CLGEI and advised for the cataract surgery. Cataract removal surgery for children requires very high expertise and needs to be performed under anaesthesia. During the whole process of multiple checkups, surgery and the follow-ups as parent say "they were highly overwhelmed by the professionalism of the staff. Starting from the appointment to the final EUA (Examination under anaesthesia) for removal of stitches, everything was very well structured. All the concerns and questions as extremely anxious, first-time parents were duly addressed by the doctor and the staff". It's been over a year when Maaz was operated. Now he using glasses and can see things around and able to follow every visual objects. The parents are relieved that their child now would have a normal life like other children. Congenital cataract is one of the major causes of childhood blindness, early detection and treatment is only way to avoid blindness in children. Stories like Maaz will help in creating awareness in society.
