The program aims to train ophthalmologists in the diagnosis and management of common diseases of the eye in the areas of clinical evaluation, use of various investigative procedures, medical treatment, surgical intervention and research. The clinical training involves fellows working in rotation through different subspecialties in the outpatient department. They will also be encouraged to evaluate patients' problems in detail, using logic and clinical data to arrive at an accurate diagnosis.
The 24 months fellowship program in comprehensive ophthalmology comprises technical instruction in modern methods of eye care, extensive work experience and complete patient care. It prepares candidates for a professional career in comprehensive ophthalmology with the ability to manage an eye care centre independently.
The fellows will be involved in all aspects of clinical diagnosis and will become familiar with the following procedures under supervision:
Training in the use of Laser equipment: Nd-YAG iridotomy, capsuotomy and membranectomy, suturolysis,
Extracapsular cataract extraction(ECCE), Small incision cataract surgery(SICS), phacoemulsification with pciol implantation, pterygium surgery,trabeculectomy,combined surgery, tissue adhesive application, Lacrimal sac and lid surgeries.
All the long term fellows will be paid a stipend of INR 40,000/- per months.
