Vision Technicians are eye care professionals who assist ophthalmologists in the clinic, participate in population screening programs and work independently at Vision Centers.
In the Vision Technician Course, students are trained in taking the history of patients, doing refraction and eye examinations (including slit lamp and applanation tonometry), and in the use of A-scan and the keratometer to calculate IOL power. They are also trained in community-based activities like doing surveys and screenings, and in informing local people on eye care.
Eligibility: Candidates with an Intermediate with Science (PCB or PCM) and a minimum percentage of 45 are eligible to apply
Duration: 12 months. For the first five months, students have classes and practical training at the C L Gupta School of Optometry. After passing the theory exam, students are sent for their clinical training to C L Gupta eye Institute
Fee: Rs. 1,50,000/- or Sponsored
Admission: Applications have to be sent to Education Department of CLGEI, after the notification appears on institute website/ local news papers. Admission exams and interviews take place in July and the course begins on the first Monday of the month of August.
